I haven't had this out in really bad weather yet so it's impossible to give a proper review of its performance. That said, it fits well (once I'd realised that Jottnar gear is about a size larger than other brands that I use), and feels like a quality bit of kit. I bought it as a lightweight jacket rather than a winter weight, but it certainly feels tough enough for year-round use. I am giving it 5 stars as much for the excellent and swift customer service I received when returning my Medium jacket for a Small) as for the fit and feel of the jacket.
A great lightweight hard shell with attention to detail - good zips and adjusters, a large storm hood and good sized chest pockets.
Like most people am more of a weekend warrior as appose to someone who's wearing this jacket day in day out working in the outdoor industry. But for that very reason when you purchase a new hardshell you have to take time over that decision, my last two hardshells have lasted the best part of seven years so you have to get it right!!! I've had the jacket 3 months and have been really impressed with it, the build quality and material look and feel great. I chose this jacket as the Bergelmir's denier rating was much higher and unless you are really pushing the winter grades and scraping your way up VI's or higher, do you really need a heavier jacket? I think this jacket strikes the right balance and will suit climbers and mountaineers who want a lightweight reliable shell for most ascents. By purchasing the garment with this new unknown membrane we are putting a lot of trust in the Jottnar teams belief in it but I have to say it is well placed. Its important to remember that no material out there will stop you from sweaty when walking up hill, I could wear a string vest and it would still be pouring out of me. But once you've summitted, within a few minutes of walking on the flat or descending the clamminess' and heat inside the jacket has disappeared completely. I'm a 40" chest 5, 11", medium build and I have in the past usually gone for a medium but always ended up feeling the jackets are bulky (not what you want when climbing), but this time choose to go for a small as hardshells usually give a bit more room to allow for midlayers. Its a close fit but I can still wear a merino baselayer and synthetic jacket underneath and that is all I would ever wear climbing even on the Ben in the middle of winter. It's a great, well made jacket that am sure will last me a long time but if I had the chance to purchase the jacket again I think I would have gone for the Jormun jacket, as for the sake of an extra £55 the pockets are better placed and it has pit zips for that immediate dump of perspiration.
Very lightweight but not flimsy feeling. The material is comfy and not at all noisy. I had a few opportunities to test it out in wet conditions in Scotland pre-lockdown and it coped admirably. 6ft 1" and 13st and Large fits well. Hopefully it proves to be reasonably durable too.
Great shell, bought it as a winter shell for next season.
The fit is comfy and weighs practically nothing. Looking forward to using it!
