Had this jacket awhile now and had a chance to test it properly. This is a superb jacket that has seen me through some seriously challenging conditions in Scotland and the Lakes (when able to get up there due to restrictions). Quite heavyweight for a summer jacket. Just wore a base layer under it and was fine. Cuffs maybe bit too large for warmer weather. However It is in Winter that the jacket really shows it’s chops and clearly designed for. This is a serious technical mountain jacket. Superb.
Most excellent jacket. The only revision i would make is adding regular hand pockets.
I traded in my comfortable but no-longer-waterproof Bergelmir (one of the older Polartec NeoShell ones) for the new Odin. The newer material is a little more crinkly than the NeoShell was, but looks as though it could well be more robust: my old jacket had areas of cracking in the waterproof membrane visible if you looked very closely. The Odin's cut is as well-fitting and comfortable as before, with good arm length (handy for cycling). The addition of pit-zips is welcome, too. Thank you, Jöttnar, for producing well-thought-out products!
I have had my Odin for a month now. The weather has been fairly reasonable during this time and I had only worn it around town which I dont think is a fair test of a product like this. Got the chance to try it properly over the last couple of days in the Peak and Lake districts. Both days wore it with a back pack, it zipped up really nicely against biting winds. The Odin was worn with a base layer both days, and a thin fleece on the first day. The jacket was very breathable, I didn't feel the need to open the pit zips at any point. Yesterday I did Striding Edge on Helvellyn which us a scrambling route if you don't know it. Inevitably I brushed up against rocks a few times and not a mark on the jacket. When it did rain intermittently I was perfectly dry inside.
I debated for some time between this and the Jormun and felt like I might get more use from the Jormun year round. In the last month or so since the temperature has dropped the thicker material of the Odin is most welcome. It clearly makes the product more durable. I like the extra touches of stiched logo's, rather than printed, and the wrist pocket on the left arm.
I ended up ordering both jackets to compare them as they aren't cheap and wanted time be sure I was buying the right thing. Customer service was absolutely spot on, Morgan was very helpful on the phone and the postage was prompt.
Really, really happy with this jacket and very highly recommend it to others. Thanks Jottnar 👍🏼
