Men's Hooded Down Jacket

A HYDROPHOBIC GOOSE DOWN JACKET FOR COLD CONDITIONS

Thorne is a versatile, hard-wearing down jacket designed for multi-activity use in cold conditions. With a toughened face fabric and rich feature set, this down jacket is your perfect daily driver. Tough on the outside but with a luxuriously soft and lightweight inner lining, Thorne gives the ideal balance of durability, comfort and performance.

Stuffed with 750 Fill Power goose down in a premium 90/10 down/feather ratio, it provides an excellent warmth to weight ratio. Our water-repellent down from DownTek™ stays dry 10x longer than untreated down. Unlike inferior versions, our water repellency won’t wash out and is free of harmful fluorocarbons. Our ethical approach to down sourcing complies with the Responsible Down Standard.

A water repellent rip-stop face fabric resists the wet, and body-mapped synthetic panelling is positioned in potential moisture zones at the shoulders, cuffs, underarm, collar and hood. Lightweight and packable, Thorne is supplied with its own stuff sack for easy carriage.

Perfect daily "daily driver", high quality, very versatile

Bought mid-October 2022, worn nearly every day during an unusually mild Philadelphia winter.

Reviewing now, after washing for first time after months of nearly daily wear. Only 1 feather bled through front fabric or lining the whole time, the sign of a very well built down jacket. Haven't re-tested the DWR after first wash - it was decent before - for a down jacket.

Performance: been comfortable at minus 10 C, moderate hiking with a thermal base layer and lightweight fleece (I run warm/hot), coat blocks wind perfectly.

Sizing: I'm an Irish transplant, living in USA , often caught between size S and M (5'10, 160lbs, 39" chest, 31" waist, light build, average arm length). Solid size M for EU brands like Rab, Mountain Equipment, HH etc.

Just raising this because Jottnar size guide states 38-40" for Size S, that's so unusual for a EU S, more like an EU M.

I contacted Morgan at Jottnar highlighting my concerns that I've never in my life been a Size S in tech outerwear for a European outerwear brand. He advised me, based on his similar dimensions, to go S. Correct steer for me/fitted but not too snug. Great CS

BTW - this is not a duvet coat to get you through a Minnesota mid winter. it's perfect for activity, in the car, most daily winter needs

Just docking it a star because it should have one internal dump pocket. Fully appreciate that this a slim profile coat - but it strikes me as a cost-saving measure. All coats in my opinion, particularly high-end ones, should have at least one netted dump pocket for a beanie/gloves etc

Also I think the hood is too small in terms of volume. I need a beanie to cover my forehead with it. But I have a fairly big noggin.

Great coat overall though. And on sale is a really good buy

Quality down jacket

Bought my Thorne jacket for Alpine ski-ing this winter and it has been excellent. Worn over thin base layer it has provided perfect level of warmth without overheating. I chose the Thorne as it looks to be more abrasion resistant than some of the other down jackets and that has been born out.

Cuffs get wet and stay wet

Nice looking coat, comfortable, warm and water-repellent. No storm seal on zips. Sleeve joint tapes a little leaky. Loses filling disconcertingly over time. Cuffs exposed so become wet quickly and stay uncomfortably wet, as does the collar around the face/chin.

Great jacket will certainly be ordering more clothes in the future from your selfs .
